Summer Recap

Today was the first day of school. Being the nerd that I am I was very excited to go back to school. Being the adventurer I am I was sad to see the freedom of Summer disappear (and the heat linger).

Here is a slight recap of my (ridiculously amazing!!!!) Summer.

Belize:

Red Mangroves (Rhizophora mangle). Aren't they sort of chaotically beautiful?! They protect the island  (we were on Wee Wee Caye) from tropical storms. A lot of resorts in Belize are tearing out the mangroves to put in "beautiful" sandy beaches and in turn the siltation is causing the coral reefs to die. Not to mention the island is completely exposed to tropical storms. It's very sad....

I took these with my underwater camera. It's nothing too fancy. On the left are some Gorgonians (soft corals) and on the right is a Caribbean Reef Squid (Sepioteuthis sepioidea).
Belize was, without a doubt, the highlight of my Summer.

Colorado:

The Yellow-Bellied Marmot (Marmota flaviventris) found near the peak of Pikes Peak.

And to top off the trip, Dr. Dog and Wilco at Red Rocks Amphitheater! (Taken with instagram -> avlamle *follow me*).

Maine:

(I'm trying not to be redundant)

This was taken in the Ice Caves. There are caves that still have ice and snow in them because the rocks keep them so hidden and cool. It was 90 degrees outside and we were standing on ice!!

Amarillo: (a mini adventure)

We hiked Palo Dura Canyon. It was very warm....

Needless to say it was an amazing Summer and I wouldn't change it for the world!! Life is so wonderful!

If you had to go back to school, I hope you're enjoying it! I know I will!!!
